MUNICIPALITIES AND NGOs IN ACTION

World Forestry Day is celebrated in Nis joint action of organizations of civil society and local authorities. In that took a leading city municipalities Palilula and Pantelej. The first, in Sunday, under patronage of City Municipality of Palilula, Association of citizens PULS and consortium of organizations of civil society with media EKOPOLIS network, students of schools, utility enterprises, citizens council and Office for Youth of Palilula, organized action of cleaning and planting of new trees in green, located between two schools – Elementary School “Bubanjski heroji” and Special School “Bubanj”.

Working activity on this location gathered about 40 volunteers, citizens of this part of settlement in Palilula and members of NGOs sector. It was worked on cold and rainy weather from 10am to 02pm with support of workers of PUE “Medijana” and PUE “Gorica”. Result of this activity: collected about 80 bag waste, mostly plastic but and others kind of waste from households. Planted ten new trees and cleared ground. This small “green oasis” of Palilula, according to organizer, recently cleared but with waste disposal has not stopped. Citizens of this settlement do not give up of proposal to be this space regulated as recreational park, because of its belonging to the edge of the forest complex of Memorial Park “Bubanj”. This a reason of formation of slogan “SAVE SMALL FOREST – LUNG OF LEDENA STENA”, as expression of great desire of residents of Ledena Stena that instead of landfill next to its homes have regulated space.

On this occasion, Milan Djurdjevic, president of Assembly, Boban Mikic, member of Council, Alexander Savic, chief of members of Assembly group of DS, visited small park on Ledena Stena and joined the participants of action of NGOs. Hosts of activities, members of Association “PULS – Lungs of Ledena Stena” registered NGO on 22nd April 2010th and work active on the improvement of protection of environment and health of population of Ledena Stena. According to president of Municipality Prof. Dr. Igor Novakovic, City Municipality of Palilula is since 2009th participant of project of national campaign “Green Cities of Serbia”, initiated by People`s Office of the President of the Republic and in cooperation with EKOpolis network also partner in international ecological campaigns “Billion Trees for Planet Earth” – “Green Tracks of Europe” – “Stop to Climate Changes”, “Clean up the World 2011”. In settlements of City Municipality of Palilula successfully is achieving Program of activities on regulation of inter – block greenery and solve requests of citizens. “It is very important that with help of this action and projects, but and  continuous education of children and youth, develops and improves ecological awareness and on right way evaluate options which nature offer to us”– highlights Milan Djurdjevic, president of Assembly. Goal of this activities, in the opinion of our interlocutors is increase of green and park surfaces in City Municipality of Palilula – City of Nis. This the reason why Palilula Municipality accepted invitation and become a member of “Green Network of City of Nis”.
